Art has been an extraordinary influence in Denise’s life, having been surrounded by a family of artisans. Some of her earliest memories are drawing with her parents in the living room of their Sonoma County home and she received awards for her work as early as elementary school.
Though proficient in many mediums, some of her most intricate and beautiful work is in watercolor. Denise also does beautiful work in oils, acrylics, pastels, pencil, charcoal, ink, silkscreen and calligraphy.
Denise has a degree in Two-Dimensional Studio Art from California State University, Sacramento where she studied under artists James Hiroshi Suzuki and Jack Ogden, in addition to a B.S. in Business Administration and Accountancy. During a decade of working in the San Francisco Financial District, she continued painting and showed her work at galleries and restaurants in the Bay Area. Denise spends most days in her art studio and this is where she finds her passion and creativity.
Denise is an Associate Member of the National Watercolor Society and continues to master her craft through continuing classes.

The wonderful thing about watercolor is how magical it appears. Colors are vibrant and intricate details can be captured. It is considered the most difficult paint to master and requires many layers of paint that must be dried in between applications.
I have been working with this medium for over 25 years and am very proficient with it. I only use the highest quality materials: Koi, Winsor & Newton and Grumbacher paints and Arches watercolor paper, 140-300lb. Watercolor is typically done on paper, and must be framed with Plexiglas or glass to display and protect it.
Oils are great for large pieces and have a very rich look. I paint the image around the sides of the canvas, so it does not need to be framed, but can be (without Plexiglas or glass). I can build my own frames and stretch and prime my own canvases, so I can make any size, including depth. If the paint is really thick, as in an impressionistic style, it can take up to 2 weeks to completely dry. I only use the highest quality materials: Winsor & Newton and Grumbacher oil paints on cotton canvas or linen.
Acrylic paints are very versatile and can be mixed with many different mediums to produce fantastic effects, such as gloss, glazing and matte mediums, texture gels such as stucco, glass beads, and textured sand, and fluid medium effects such as iridescent and pouring mediums. For more information go to Liquitex.com.
Acrylic paints dry within a day, but can look much like oils. I paint around the edges of the stretched canvas, so framing isn’t necessary, but can be done if you desire. I only use the highest quality materials including Liquitex acrylic paints in Soft Body, Heavy Body or Super Heavy Body depending on the artwork, on stretched and primed cotton canvas.
Most of the drawings I do are in pastel or pencil. Pastels come in either chalk or oil form. I use Unison and Rembrandt pastels which have beautiful colors. I use Prismacolor colored pencils which are wax-based and have a very smooth texture and Prismacolor graphite pencils on Strathmore drawing papers. Your drawing should be framed to protect it.
I love creating real artwork for children’s rooms. I started doing this type of art when my own children were young and I couldn’t find any suitable artwork for their rooms that weren’t prints or giclees. A customized piece of artwork can tie everything together, while adding beauty and personality to their space.
I would love to create a unique piece of artwork for your child’s space, whether it is a photo to art painting, a painting to match bedding or room décor, or something else that you’ve imagined. Email me your idea and I will assist you in creating something special.
For more than 25 years I have been creating custom calligraphy for those seeking to add a personal and elegant touch to invitations, announcements or other calligraphic items for social and corporate events. I have hand-scribed thousands of items including: wedding invitations, certificates, place cards, nametags, signage, table numbers/names, wedding vows and poems.
I have standard pricing: wedding envelopes (inner & outer) $2.50 each, $1.75 outer only, place cards and nametags, $1.00 and $.25 for additional lines, table numbers $.75 each. Please email me with your details and I will provide you with a quote. Please view the five styles I have in the gallery section: Book Hand, Italic, Flourished Italic, Black Letter and Informal, or email me if you have another style you prefer and I can hand-scribe it for you.
When my son was young he accidentally knocked a finished, unsecured painting off of my easel. Fortunately, the painting was for his room and not a client (Boy with Cat, in Gallery). Unfortunately it suffered major damage: a 3 inch tear and a 5 inch scratch down the center of the face. After much patience and meticulous work, I was able bring it back to its original splendor.
My expert eye in color matching, knowledge of different repairing mediums and attention to detail all played a part in the repair. Afterward, I thought, I could offer this service to others who have had artwork damaged. If you have a repair to be made, please email me a photo and description of repairs to be made and I will let you know if I can fix it and an estimate.
